He had reached the age of 87. Charles Dierkop gained recognition for his memorable performances in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. A tragic loss occurred on Sunday, February 25, at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, as Dierkop passed away. He portrayed the antagonist George “Flat Nose” Curry in the timeless Western film featuring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. As per Lynn, his daughter, he passed away due to a heart attack followed by pneumonia.

Dierkop also had notable roles in the caper movie The Sting alongside Newman and Redford, as well as in the police procedural Police Woman alongside Angie Dickinson.

Dierkop enlisted in the US military and was stationed in Korea following the conclusion of the Korean War. His birthplace was La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1936. Following his military service, he ventured to Philadelphia to pursue studies at the American Foundation of Dramatic Arts and endeavored to secure employment in Hollywood.

When questioned about his suitability for the role of Butch Cassidy in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (2018), Dierkop explained that his broken nose gave him a certain outlaw-like quality. “My agent came across a script while on a plane, titled ‘Flat Nose Curry’.” During an interview with Rob Word, he mentioned that he has a specific person in mind. “I had the privilege of interviewing with the esteemed director George Roy Hill, who immediately recognized my talent and cast me for the role.” Their marriage lasted from 1958 to 1974. Dierkop and Joan Addis crossed paths at the American Foundation of Dramatic Arts and decided to tie the knot. They were blessed with two children: a son named Charles Jr., who sadly passed away at the young age of 29, and a daughter named Lynn.
