Ingredients:
- 300 ml water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Sesame and other seeds of your choice
- 50 ml oil
- 30 g yeast
- 400 – 500 g flour
- 100 g margarine
Procedure:
- Crush about 30 g of fresh yeast with a little warm water and a tablespoon of sugar. Mix well to dissolve the yeast, then add 50 ml of oil and the remaining warm water.
- Gradually add the flour, salt, and mix with a spoon until you get a moderately soft dough. Finish kneading the dough by hand until it becomes elastic. Return it to a clean bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and a cloth. Let it rest for half an hour to activate the yeast and double the dough.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin. Form a rectangular sheet about 1 finger thick. Cut the sheet in half to get two elongated rectangular sheets. Spread a little softened margarine on top of the sheets to make them soft.
- Fold the sheets one over the other, then cut in half again (into two squares). Fold them, spreading margarine between the layers. Press the layered dough slightly with the rolling pin from the top and cut it once more.
- Finally, gently roll out a rectangular sheet (the folding process gives it a puff pastry effect, as shown in the video). Coat the obtained sheet with ketchup and generously sprinkle various seeds on top to cover the entire surface (approximately 50 g of sesame, a little flaxseed, and seeds of your choice).
- Cut the sheet in half for easier slicing, then cut thin strips according to your preference. Roll them slightly in a spiral and arrange them in a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the prepared seed sticks in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes or until nicely browned. You can find detailed steps in the video
